Education Every great city needs to support its community with quality education. From Pre-K to college graduation, Hammond schools have the family covered. Public School EducationHammond public schools are part of the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Hammond takes education seriously. It is the home of the parish’s first magnet school that gives students— and parents—an even greater opportunity for success. Eleven public schools take pride in making sure Hammond’s most important residents get the preparation they need for their future.Magnet Pilot ProgramFor the past year, Hammond has been leading the way in education with the Hammond Eastside Magnet Pilot Program. The school gives students an even greater opportunity to succeed through new techniques and more technological opportunities. Classes are now offered for students from Pre-K through Grade Four. Officials have plans to add a new grade each year.Since 2006, the school has helped 100 students achieve high levels of success through a challenging curriculum. Art, music and dance are the focus of the curriculum, as well as learning foreign languages. The pilot program gives students opportunities that they would not normally have in traditional public schools. Parochial EducationHammond is a well-rounded city, and with that comes the opportunity for learning in an environment that also focuses on other aspects of life. Seven private schools—including four religious-based schools—also put Hammond on the edge of education. Private schools offer students and parents a different type of education, from pre-school to high school graduation.Southeastern Louisiana University 4-Year Accredited CollegeSoutheastern Louisiana University, the state’s third largest institution of higher education, is located in the heart of the Florida Parishes and serves as a major educational, economic and cultural center for the region.Southeastern offers 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
