Healthcare Like education, Hammond takes its people’s health seriously too. The city is home to the largest community-based hospital on the Northshore and a cancer center, with two other hospitals within twenty miles of the city, and a fourth soon to open. North Oaks Health SystemNorth Oaks Health System is the largest community-based hospital organization on the Northshore, serving the Florida Parishes since 1960. As the second-largest employer in Tangipahoa Parish, North Oaks employs more than 2,400 staff members, and has over 350 volunteers and more than 170 physicians on the medical staff. With a combined 130 years of experience, its home to the most experienced treatment team in the state of Louisiana. For 35 years, the staff at the Hammond location, along with other centers in Baton Rouge and Covington, has been helping the people of the community win their battle with cancer. The Cancer Center operates an energetic program that educates the community about cancer and offers free screenings for cancer in the skin, colon, prostate, or breasts.Other ServicesHammond is also home to an Ochsner Clinic and St. Luke’s Surgicenter. Around the parish, 150 physicians operate practices.Two other hospitals, Hood Memorial, and Lallie Kemp Hospital, are just fifteen minutes from Hammond. |
